Reynald Chaput's introduction to designing with free form 3D surfaces began with entries in the Fisher Body Student Design contests in the1950's. He won several styling awards, and studied at the Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles, CA.

Reynald worked with Mattel Toys for 11 years in the model shop before starting his own shop in 1987, as a mold making and model shop business, based on his 35 years of mold and model making experience.

As he became more and more involved in, and committed to, 3D digitizing and CAD/CAM, he changed the business name to Ideas in 3D to better reflect his interests and direction.
